Cardinal (U.S.A.) / 1921

Design: The illustration depicts the well-known North American bird, which has bright red plumage and is named for the red cloaks of the dignitaries of the Roman Catholic church. A sound, well-balanced design.

History: The label originated from New York City, one of many to spring up following the expiration in 1919 of Victor and Columbia's patents on recording technology. Label scan courtesy of music researcher and collector Bill Dean-Myatt of the U.K., who notes: "This is one of the first issues, recorded March 1921."
