Anker-Rekord (Germany) / c. 1927

Design: The irreverent (for classical music) and revolutionary design features a brilliant cartoon-style illustration of a jolly musical trio at the foot of the label, while the record information, which would normally occupy this space, is placed in the upper segment. The 'wide-expanded' label name runs in a continuous flow around the outer edge, in recognition of the way the lettering would be seen while spinning.

History: The company had its beginnings in Berlin in the early 1900s. Label scan courtesy of musicologist and collector Bill Dean-Myatt of the U.K.
