Turmaphon Record 1

Turmaphon-Record (Germany) / c. 1913

back next

Design: An elegant, casually-dressed young man relaxes in a wicker chair on a wide outer porch, listening to a portable phonograph that sits on a little four-legged table at his side. Having thrown his papers aside, he examines the label of another record he is about to play.

The ornament either side of the illustration, which feeds into the original Art Nouveau-style border that surrounds the lower segment, is almost identical to that seen on the Parlophon-Record (right). Either side of the imprinted information are the carnival-style figures of a jester (left) and a female fan-dancer (?), seen below.

History: Unknown (have info? Please send to info.re.78s@shaw.ca). Label scan courtesy of collector Helmut Janisch of Germany.
