Tip Top 1

Tip-Top Gramophone Record (U.K.) / 1919

Design: A somewhat over-designed arrangement, with multiple segments and panels isolating the elements. The superfluous words 'Gramophone Record' do not balance out well in the centred, symmetrical format. 'Tip-top' was a commonly heard vernacular expression meaning 'the very best.'

History: Label scan courtesy of music researcher and collector Bill Dean-Myatt of the U.K., who writes: "This label was pasted over those of unsold Winner records."
