The Winner (U.K.) / 1912

Design: A lithographic picture of a race meeting, with great detail even in the background, showing a grandstand with a flag fluttering above excited spectators. The horse, though masterfully modelled, is shown in a rather old-fashioned 'rocking-horse' stance. The jockey, who wears the red cross of England's patron St. George, leans forward to ensure the record he carries passes the finishing post first, as a top-hatted judge looks on. The overall design and outside-edge ornamentation is very similar to that seen on the contemporary Parlophon-Record from Germany (right).

History: As previous. Label scan courtesy of music researcher and collector Bill Dean-Myatt of the U.K.
