Sol 2

Sol (Norway) / c. 1919

Design: A beautiful illustration of the sun rising from behind a snow-coated mountain, as seen from a tree-lined valley. An interesting feature here is that all the lettering is hand-drawn, not overprinted with hot-metal type, as is usual. The serial number at the foot, though less dominant than that seen on the previous label, is still strong.

History: Label scan courtesy of collector Kjell Thorsen of Norway, who writes: "Vike's sound recording was done in Norway, but the production processes like matrix-pressing and record production was done in England, at the Edison Bell company, called 'Winner.' The recording equipment that was used in Norway was either borrowed or hired from the Edison Bell company. Most of the recordings (in fact, probably all) were from Norwegian and Swedish artists on those labels."
