Secrestat (France) / c. 1919

Design: Unusual treatment for the label name, which is horizontally (but unevenly) stepped along the base line, while the 'cap line' follows the outer curve. The roman caps are very light in weight, lending the design an air of elegance and refinement; for general commercial advertising, a much thicker weight of line would be employed.

History: Evidently a promotional disc produced for the J.H. Secrestat winery in Bordeaux, France, which was founded in 1851 by Jules-Honoré Secrestat, producing bitter Secrestat, Toni-Kola and Arauc brands. Label scan courtesy of collector Marco Gialdroni of Italy.
