Hermophon-Edelklang

Hermophon-Edelklang (Germany) / c. 1912

back next

Design: An image of a phonograph cabinet (perhaps a product of the Hermophon company) sits above the spindle hole, surrounded by elaborate fan-like ornamentation. The outer border shows the same angular line-ending treatment as seen on the Albion Record and The Winner labels.

History: A German-Swiss company, founded in the late 19th century, which made high-quality phonographs, and had its own recording studio. 'Edelklang' means 'noble sound.' Label scan courtesy of musicologist and collector Bill Dean-Myatt of the U.K.
