Emerson Record (U.S.A.) / 1916

Design: The stars and stripes of the American flag are cleverly adapted to form the outer border. A triple-funnelled ocean liner flying the same flag steams past the Statue of Liberty into New York Harbour. For millions of refugees seeking escape from war, poverty and religious persecution, this was to be their first sight of America.

History: Victor Emerson, whose signature appears at the foot of the label, was employed by Columbia until he launched his own line of small-sized cheaply-priced records in 1916.
