Columbia Record 8

Columbia Record (U.K.) / c. 1917

Design: Evidently a series promoting operatic performances. Instead of the label name appearing white, as before, the background becomes white and the letters are filled in with colour. The 'magic notes' are squashed down to allow for the extra length of the label name. The song title has been set in a letterpress font known as Wide Latin, developed in the Victorian era and still popular, which features bold triangular-shaped serifs.

History: As previous. Label scan courtesy of collector Graham Farnell of the U.K.
