Bulldog Record (U.K.) / c. 1918

Design: The elements on this paper label follow the same basic positioning as the earlier record, but here the label name appears in a gravic-serif Victoriana font resonant with sprouting curlicues. The illustration features a hearty-looking sailor in front of a fluttering Union Jack (a composition which doubtless resonated with surging national emotions of patriotism during WWI). Known for its courage and tenacity in a fight, several Royal Navy vessels have carried the name 'Bulldog' over the years.

History: As the previous label. Label scan courtesy of music researcher and collector Bill Dean-Myatt of the U.K.
