Besttone Record 2

Besttone Record (U.K.) / c. 1912

Design: The profile of the lion's head is unfortunately obscured by a royalty stamp, but the drawing is well done. The softly-angled filler above and below the centre bar is quite different to that seen on the previous label (compare with the sharply-angled decoration on the Albion label).

History: The label carries the secondary line "Rifanco Lion Brand." Other bird and animal images were used on Besttone labels in conjunction with the Rifanco name, such as 'Rifanco Canary,' 'Rifanco Eagle' etc., undoubtedly promoting some kind of product, but exactly what that might have been is unknown (the name Rifanco possibly deriving from R__.I__.F__. & Co.). Label scan courtesy of collector Graham Farnell of the U.K.
