Aerophone (France) / c. 1914

Design: The dark blue upper segment seems to be pasted over a red label that in turn appears to have been pasted over the original label, which appears in dark red. The amazing-looking image shows an early version of a monoplane with an open-frameworked fuselage carrying a phonograph with a vertically-oriented horn, flying above banks of cumulus-type clouds and the rays of a rising sun. What the ornamentation either end of the label name banner represents is unclear. The quality of the gold printing is very fine.

History: Label scan above courtesy of musicologist and collector Bill Dean-Myatt of the U.K. Alternate colour label scan below courtesy of collector Helmut Janisch of Germany.
