Design: The label name is very carefully drawn in outline lettering with a finely shaded background (echoing the multi-lined border), with the word 'Record' drawn as a separate logotype in a flowing brush script with a swash underline. The blurb 'British Made Throughout' would appeal to patriotic buyers around the time of the First World War (in 1915, the company began manufacturing a trench catapult which hurled grenades toward enemy lines). The periods appearing at the end of some lines were typical of Victorian-era typography.
History: A. W. Gamage ('Gamages'), one of central London's iconic retail stores, was founded in 1878, and closed its doors in 1972. Label scan courtesy of collector Bill Dean-Myatt of the U.K.
