Sirena (Tsarist Russia) / c. 1910

back next

Design: A very beautiful and colourful design, quite different from other Syrena labels, featuring an Oriental-looking woman playing a lyre in a cartouche in the upper segment, highlighted by a gradated background. The stylized lyre at the centre, printed in gold, is overlaid by a pair of red-bordered yellow panels containing the imprinted information; the range of colours used virtually covers the spectrum of the rainbow. The dot-dash outer border also appears on an early Brunswick label.

History: Founded in 1904 and lasting until 1939. Label scan courtesy of collector Lucyna Lachowicz of Poland.
