Design: A rather beautiful cameo-like design, with a seated young lady in a long dress, holding a disc in one hand and an Aeolian harp in the other on the left, with organic Victorian-style logotypes on the right.

History: According to The English 78 Picture Book by Don Taylor, the novel 'system' of Dr. Michaelis, introduced in 1904, consisted of an enamel-coated cardboard disc, impressed with a hill-and-dale vertical groove (like Edison records), which had to be played with a sapphire needle; the width of the discs varied from 7 1/2 inches to 20 inches. Production ceased in 1908. Label scan courtesy of collector Bill Dean-Myatt of the U.K.
