Design: An instantly recognizable logo is introduced; the label name is dressed up with a gold outline. In a further recognition of the importance of visual appeal, the boring legal stuff has been minimized and a distinctively-shaped thick border unifies the design elements. With the introduction of this new label design, Columbia started its reference numbering system afresh.

History: Columbia's newspaper advertising at the time drew attention to the new logo with the slogan "Note the Notes -- Double the Value for your Money," since the records now featured tracks on each side.
