Columbia Phonograph Co. (Germany) / c. 1909

Design: A lovely wood-engraved logo above the spindle hole, showing Columbia, the goddess of America who symbolized liberty (her name being the feminized version of Columbus). Wearing a gown made of stars and stripes, representing the member states of the union, she rests her right hand on a table-top cylinder-playing phonograph, which sits on a short classical plinth.

History: Label scan courtesy of collector Gabriel Gössel of Czechoslovakia.
