Design: This beautiful illustration depicts a nude shepherd boy playing his pipes on the hills above a rugged coastline. The border in the lower segment is of the Attic variety, suggesting Greek mythology. In the late 19th century the new science of archaeology gave rise to great public interest in the remains of classical antiquity and stories of pagan mythology. The lettering of the label name, with its rounded shapes and extended leg to the 'R,' calls to mind the Art Nouveau influence in art and design.

History: Unknown (have info? Please send to info.re.78s@shaw.ca). Label scan courtesy of collector Jukka Kettunen of Finland, who found this gem in a flea market, and notes that the record was 18 inches in diameter.
